CYCLIQUE

In 1999, upon releasing its second album "Cyclique", Velma felt an urge to propose its music on another level, in a different form. This desire brought us to develop a performance inspired by the music but extending it to the visible universe. The challenge consisted in keeping the abstraction of the music while materializing it into a physical envelope. By being formal and functional we avoided a narrative drift, which would have annihilated the proposition.

After being successfully premiered at les Urbaines festival in December 1999, Velma accepted the offer of the Arsenic in Lausanne to further develop the piece into a more achieved performance. Cyclique2 was premiered in Arsenic in November 2000, bringing the work furthermore toward the edge of abstraction.
